Serving Meals

Dinnertime at The Extension is a great example of our community coming together. After working hard all day, the residents appreciate having a hot meal provided for them. But, more importantly, the love and fellowship shared over dinner with our volunteers make all the difference.

The information below should answer most of your questions about serving dinner to our residents at both of our campuses.

When deciding what to prepare, think about where you will be doing most of the cooking - some groups cook everything together, off-site (at their church, for instance), others prepare items individually, in small batches and combine it when they get to The Extension.

Due to group therapy sessions taking place in the dining areas, volunteers will not be permitted in the dining area until 7:00 pm Monday through Saturday. Please try to bring your meal ready to serve as meal preparation time is currently very limited,

Thank you for joining us in service—we look forward to seeing you!

Men's Campus – Located at 1507 Church Street Extension, Marietta

As we increase our capacity of residents in a stair-step pattern to meet staffing requirements, our current max number of residents is 54. We ask that you prepare enough dinner for our residents and those in your group to share the meal. Dinner is served at 7:00pm. The earliest time that volunteers can access our building for meal prep is at 6 pm. On Sunday, we ask the group (if church-affiliated) to share a 10-minute devotional.

Parking is available in any of the front and back parking spaces that are open (including the handicapped spot after 4:30 pm) and parallel along the alley to the right of the building (please leave room for cars to pass). Carpooling is encouraged.

The Men's Extension building has an eight burner commercial gas range, an oven, convection oven, and a large grill outdoors. Our facility is equipped with a commercial dishwasher, allowing us to use melamine plates and bowls and stainless steel flatware, and an ice maker—we have all of that you will need. Residents will wash the dishes from the evening meal, although they may not get to it right after dinner because of their meeting schedule. If you have your own pots that need washing, please ask a resident to help.

Women's Campus – Located at 130 Holiday Street, Marietta

We currently have 25 residents in our women's residential recovery program. We ask that you prepare enough dinner for our residents and those in your group to share the meal. Dinner is from 7:15 – 8:15 pm. We serve dinner Monday through Saturday. We also provide dinner on Sunday but ask the group (if church-affiliated) to share a 10-minute devotional.

The women's facility does not have a commercial range; we have a four-burner stove with one oven and an outside grill. Our facility is equipped with two dishwashers, allowing us to use melamine plates and bowls and stainless steel flatware, and an ice maker—we have all of that you will need. Residents will do the kitchen clean-up.
